The CPI shows how the cost of a fixed set of goods and services bought by households changes over time; inflation is calculated from it.
In plain words
The State Statistics Service calculates the CPI monthly using a weighting structure of consumption, that is, the share of different kinds of spending in household budgets. An index of “102.1% on the previous month” means prices rose by 2.1% on average over the month. The CPI is compared over different periods: with the previous month, with December of the previous year and with the same month a year earlier. The NBU also publishes the CPI series as open data.
