Deposit guarantee is a state system under which the Deposit Guarantee Fund for individuals reimburses depositors if a member bank becomes insolvent, up to a limit.

In plain words

By law the Fund guarantees each depositor of a bank reimbursement of the deposit together with interest, but not more than the maximum compensation amount, regardless of the number of deposits in one bank. The law provides that this maximum cannot be less than UAH 200,000; check the current amount and the list of member banks on the Fund’s website. The protection covers deposits (accounts, term deposits, money on cards held at a bank), not securities, government bonds or crypto, and not money in non-bank payment services.

  1. Law of Ukraine “On the Deposit Guarantee System for Individuals” No. 4452-VI of 23 February 2012 — Art. 2 (item 3), Art. 26(1) (version of 4 October 2026). Checked 14.10.2026.

Example. You have UAH 150,000 in a term deposit and UAH 50,000 on a card at bank A. The amount at one bank is counted together (UAH 200,000), so it fits even within the minimum maximum set by law. Other banks are counted separately.

Word of the dayInflationBasic

Inflation is a sustained rise in the general level of prices, so that money buys fewer goods and services than before.

Example. Prices rose 10% over the year and your deposit earned 8%: formally you earned something, but you can buy a little less with that money than last year (108 against 110, illustrative numbers).
