You can buy bitcoin for hryvnia on an exchange, in the quick card purchase section, or through P2P, that is, directly from another person. The methods differ in fees, speed and risks. Below we describe how they work according to the services’ official pages as of October 2026, what they cost, and which risks to consider.
This material is for information only and is not investment advice: the price of bitcoin can change sharply, and the money you invest can be lost.
What to Know Before Your First Purchase
In Ukraine, the Law “On Virtual Assets” (No. 2074-IX of 17 February 2022) has been adopted, but on its card on the Verkhovna Rada website its status is shown as “Not yet in force”. It is meant to take effect together with the law amending the Tax Code on taxation of operations with virtual assets. Bill No. 10225-d, which is meant to regulate circulation and taxation, was adopted in principle on 3 September 2025, and as of 13 October 2026 its status on the bill’s card is “Being prepared for second reading”. So far it is only a draft.
Back in 2017, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), the National Securities and Stock Market Commission (NSSMC) and the National Commission for State Regulation of Financial Services Markets, in a joint statement, said that cryptocurrencies are neither money, nor currency, nor electronic money, nor securities. The regulators warned those who invest their own funds in cryptocurrencies that they do so at their own risk. Therefore, choosing a service, checking its terms and taking responsibility for your decisions rest with you.
Risk. The price of bitcoin can change within hours, and exchanges warn about this themselves. The Binance P2P pages state that the prices of virtual assets may be volatile and that the exchange is not liable for trading losses. Buy only an amount whose loss would not hit the budget of your business as a sole proprietor (FOP) or your family.
Ways to Buy Bitcoin for Hryvnia
Below are three methods whose terms you can check on official pages. WhiteBIT and Binance are used as examples, because both have pages covering hryvnia. This is not a rating and not a recommendation.
| Method | How it works | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Exchange: deposit and BTC/UAH order | First you top up your balance in hryvnia, then buy bitcoin in the spot pair BTC/UAH. WhiteBIT has this pair: it appears in the exchange’s public markets API as of 13.10.2026 | Trading fee, deposit fee, minimum order size |
| Quick card purchase | In the “Buy Crypto” section you select hryvnia as the payment currency and the asset you need. WhiteBIT has the Quick Top Up method for hryvnia: payment by bank card | The rate already includes the conversion fee, the transfer window is 30 minutes, verification is required |
| P2P | You pay another person’s account directly, while the exchange blocks their cryptocurrency for the duration of the deal. Binance P2P is an example. WhiteBIT’s similar P2P Express feature is intended for USDT | Pay only from an account in your own name, and read the rules of the marketplace |
There are also private exchangers and peer-to-peer deals “from hand to hand”. Their terms cannot be checked against official sources, so this material does not cover such methods.
Step by Step: Buying Bitcoin on an Exchange
The example is WhiteBIT, because its help center describes in detail how to work with hryvnia.
- Registration and verification. According to the WhiteBIT help center, without identity verification (KYC) only demo tokens are available. Verification is required for deposits, withdrawals and the “Buy Crypto” section. Registration and use of the service are allowed from age 18.
- Account protection. The exchange describes two-factor authentication (an authenticator app), passkeys, an anti-phishing code for emails and a whitelist of withdrawal addresses. Turn them on before your first deposit.
- Depositing hryvnia. The Card Transfer method works like this: the site generates an invoice, and you transfer the money to the card of the exchange’s P2P partner. You have 10 minutes to pay. You must pay from the card you specified, otherwise the payment will be cancelled. After the transfer, confirm the payment and upload the receipt. The method is available in the list of countries that includes Ukraine.
- Order in the BTC/UAH pair. If your order is executed immediately against existing offers, you are a taker. If it is placed in the queue and is not executed right away, you are a maker. On WhiteBIT, 0.1% is currently listed for both takers and makers.
- Checking the result. According to WhiteBIT’s description, the purchase fee is charged in the asset you are buying. In the BTC/UAH pair, that is bitcoin.
- Withdrawal to your own wallet (optional). The fee depends on the network and the asset price and may change without notice. Check the address and the network before withdrawing.
Tip. Before your first serious purchase, run a test: go through the whole path with a small amount — deposit, buy, withdraw. This way you will see the real fees and timelines, not the ones in the advertising.
How Much It Costs
| Component | What the official pages say |
|---|---|
| WhiteBIT trading fee (spot) | 0.1% for takers and 0.1% for makers. For some pairs the fee may differ, but it does not exceed these percentages. The VIP program gives discounts |
| Depositing hryvnia | Depends on the method. The percentage and limits are shown in the Fiat section of the WhiteBIT fees page |
| Quick card purchase (Buy Crypto) | For Apple Pay, Google Pay and Visa/Mastercard, WhiteBIT lists 1.5% for banks in EU countries and 3.5% for banks outside the EU and for commercial cards. For the hryvnia Quick Top Up method, the rate you see already includes the conversion fee |
| P2P Express (WhiteBIT) | There is no separate fee; the rate corresponds to the counter-offer on the P2P platform |
| P2P on Binance | For hryvnia, the seller always receives the full amount, and the buyer pays the payment provider’s fees (clause II.6 of the P2P policy). For the exchange’s own P2P fees, see the Binance P2P tariffs |
| Network withdrawal fee | Depends on network load and the asset price, and may change without notice |
Illustrative example: if you buy bitcoin for UAH 10,000 at a 0.1% fee, the exchange fee will be UAH 10. Your bank’s fees and those of the chosen deposit method may be added on top, so compare the full amount, not just the percentage.
Main Risks
- Volatility. The price can change within hours, and back in 2017 the regulators stressed that such operations take place at one’s own risk.
- Storage on an exchange. In its help center, WhiteBIT describes itself as a centralized exchange and custodial platform that holds users’ assets and is responsible for their security. Keep on the exchange only the amount you need for trades.
- Payment to someone else’s card. With methods such as Card Transfer and in P2P, you send money to another person or partner. WhiteBIT states that payments from another card will be cancelled. Binance expressly prohibits payments to third-party accounts and does not support payment methods where the real name has not been confirmed.
- Phishing and fake sites. Open the exchange at the address from an official source, not from an ad or a message. The anti-phishing code in emails helps you tell a genuine exchange email from a fake one.
- Banks. Large and frequent transfers related to crypto may attract the bank’s attention. For more details, see How to Withdraw Crypto to a Ukrainian Bank Card.
- Taxes. The Tax Code (version of 17 September 2026) contains no separate rules on virtual assets. What official sources currently advise is described in the same article.
Checklist Before Buying
- Find the company that provides the service to you in the user agreement. At WhiteBIT, for example, crypto operations and fiat operations are carried out by different companies of the group.
- Check fees, limits and the date they were last updated on the official page.
- Check whether verification is required, and prepare your documents.
- Make sure you are paying from an account in your own name.
- Turn on two-factor authentication.
- Keep receipts and transaction history: a bank or the tax authority may ask for them.

On WhiteBIT, without verification only demo tokens are available, while deposits, withdrawals and the “Buy Crypto” section require it. For P2P on Binance, identity verification, SMS confirmation and at least one two-factor authentication device are required.
Is it legal to buy bitcoin in Ukraine?
The special law on virtual assets (No. 2074-IX) is not yet in force, and bill No. 10225-d has not been adopted as a whole. The regulators’ position in the 2017 joint statement is that operations take place at one’s own risk. For your specific situation, consult a lawyer or a tax adviser.

Can I buy bitcoin for hryvnia by card on Binance?
Binance’s help article on buying with a card (updated 9 December 2025) does not list hryvnia among the currencies. For hryvnia on Binance, we consider P2P, which is described in the article Binance P2P: How to Buy and Sell Crypto for Hryvnia. Check the current list of currencies in the app.
