TRC-20 is a token standard on the TRON network: an analogue of ERC-20 used to issue tokens on TRON smart contracts (USDT among them).
In plain words
USDT on the TRON network (TRC-20) is one of the most common ways to send stablecoins because the fees are usually lower than on Ethereum. A TRON fee is expressed in Energy and Bandwidth resources, which you can obtain by freezing TRX or pay for by burning TRX, so the wallet needs a small reserve of TRX. TRON addresses begin with the letter T. Before sending, make sure the exchange or the recipient supports exactly TRC-20.

Example. A client pays you 300 USDT. You send them a TRC-20 address (it starts with T). If they send USDT on the ERC-20 network to that address, the transfer will not reach its destination.
