AML (Anti-Money Laundering) is the set of rules and procedures aimed against laundering of proceeds of crime and terrorist financing.

In plain words

In Ukraine the basic law is No. 361-IX: banks, payment services and virtual asset service providers are subjects of primary financial monitoring. They assess customer risk, check customers (KYC), watch transactions and report suspicious ones. Crypto services also use blockchain AML analytics: they check whether funds are linked to known fraud addresses or sanctions lists and may freeze funds until the circumstances are clarified.

Example. You receive USDT from an address that an analytics system has flagged as linked to fraud: the exchange may temporarily freeze the deposit and ask for explanations.

A cold wallet is a way of keeping cryptocurrency keys offline, without a permanent internet connection: a hardware device or a seed phrase written on paper or metal.

Example. You buy a hardware wallet, write the seed phrase on paper and keep it in a safe, while the money for everyday spending stays in a mobile wallet.
